"Ang Biyahe ni Marlon" joins Viddsee Juree Awards out-of-competition lineup

"Ang Biyahe ni Marlon," (Marlon's Journey), Florence Rosini's short documentary about an Uber driver with Tourette's Syndrome, is among the 86 films featured on the out-of-competition lineup of the second Viddsee Juree Awards Philippines. Rosini, a TV writer and filmmaker, is the co-founder of the PLM Film Society.

"Ang Biyahe ni Marlon" bagged the top prize at the first Istorya ng Pag-Asa Film Festival, held in June. It is eligible for the Viddsee Juree Awards Philippines Audience Choice Award, until September 21.

Meanwhile, 10 short films will duke it out for the top prize in the In Competition section, with stories ranging from coming-of-age, to depression, to LGBTQ+ issues. You can view the nominees BY CLICKING ON THE FILM TITLES:

Ma. Jhayle Ann Marie Meer

The film revolves around two children who are forced to deal with feelings of neglect. Igme and Gani are best friends who depend on each other and protect each other. Considered as outcasts in school, Igme achingly waits for her mother to come home, while Gani resents his older brother who has become dismissive of him. They try to look out for each other but ends up being the cause of each other's first real loss. To repair their friendship, Igme voices out her story to Gani.

Patrick Rodil

A young boy comes to grips with what is right and what is wrong as he discovers something about the priest he looks up to. Cyril, a 12-year-old orphan, tries to find out what Father Gerardo’s motives are for his wrongdoings, only to get disillusioned once more. The film shows the issue of morality through two perspectives: the priest and the young child.

Ronald Dulatre & Elaiza Rivera

Reg, a socially awkward comedian gets help from his "special friend"; Alyssa, but when he is supposed to give the performance of his life, Alyssa suddenly vanishes. A comedy film full of tropes both old and new.

Bea Felix

A story about judgment, sacrifice and social injustice. Susing tackles the other side of what we see on social media today.

Christian Rae Villanueva

Over the course of one night, Juanita, a teacher battling depression, teams up with her delinquent student to retrieve something important for her. The film depicts the responsibility of a mother to her child, and how finding solace can affect humans.

Brian Spencer Reyes

Linda Manuel is a former actress. Decades in the industry left her used to basking in attention. That attention, however, is shared with her rival - Norma Gesmundo. Many years past her prime, Linda has now faded from her glory. Nowadays, she spends her time seeking attention from others. With her birthday coming up, she's invited her old friends and colleagues so she may once again be the center of attention. But something puts a monkey wrench into her plans - Norma Gesmundo is in a coma.

Two top entries will be named Gold and Silver winners, who will be picked by an international panel of judges that comprises Malaysian publisher, writer and filmmaker Amir Muhammad; Tribeca Film Festival Shorts Programmer Ben Thompson; and actress Cherie Gil Eigenmann, the three-time Best Supporting Actress winner in the Metro Manila Film Festival, and recipient of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Ani ng Dangal award.

Gold and Silver winners will be awarded film production grants worth PHP160,000 and PHP80,000 respectively, along with audio equipment provided by RØDE Microphones. The Gold winner will also win a five-day Global Film & TV Program in Los Angeles sponsored by the Motion Picture Association. All ten finalists will receive a 12-month Creative Cloud All Apps subscription worth US$560 each from Adobe.

Viddsee Juree Awards is an initiative celebrating the entertainment industry's picks of Asian short films from all genres: fiction, documentary and animation. In this year’s Philippines edition, stories are picked from the brightest talents and upcoming filmmakers, and judged by a panel of international judges and showcased online. Juree is part of Viddsee’s commitment to celebrate and support filmmakers and film communities in Asia.
